Rowan's adoption donation is $325 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, bordetella and tested negative for heartworm and started on monthly prevention.  We believe him to be 3-4 yrs. old and weighs 6 pounds.

UPDATE 4/24/13:  We moved Rowan to another foster home to see how he would adapt to a new home and change in foster parents! Once again, he has bonded much more to his new foster momma than his foster dad. He follows me around, though still cautious when I directly reach for him, and loves to fiercely catapult himself up onto the couch to snuggle by me. He tolerates being given to his foster dad to hold and lay beside, but at the first chance he gets, he darts back over to the "safety" of mom. Because he has bonded with me more than with dad, he tends to become protective of his foster mom (as he did in his former foster home). He will occasionally nip at his foster dad when feeling overly bold ("empowered" by being close to his foster momma, of course!) and when his foster dad reaches directly for him.

Because of his higher comfort level with women, we feel the best home for Rowan would be an all-female home who is looking for a sweet, snuggle-bunny companion who gives tiny little licks (though never on the face)! He has been doing well at pottying outside on a leash, so a fenced-in yard is not required for him, and as he is so focused in on his foster momma, another dog in his furever home would not be a requirement for him as well. He gets along BEST with the little Maltese girl I have in my home, and the socialization of another dog would only be beneficial to his future doggie growth, but currently he is only interested in playing with his foster mom at this point. He is so adorable when he's feeling playful and will walk all over his foster mommy (and paw me too!) letting me know he's ready to play. He is cratetrained at night but also quickly learned how to use the doggie stairs up to the big bed. He loves to rocket right up them to pounce on the comforter! He also learned how to use the doggie door just by watching the other dogs in his foster home. And he is a great little leash-walker, just prancing along with his tightly-curled Maltese tail held high!

He will need continued reinforcement of pottytraining (as all little doggies do!), as we noticed after about two weeks in his new foster home, he began feeling "comfortable" enough to think that he needed to do some marking of "his territory"...his foster mommy is NOT okay with that, so you can believe we are working on that!  He is also a good little eater but is able to stop when he's nice & full.

UPDATE 3/7/13: Rowan is doing very well with his potty manners. We also feel he would do best with another fur-buddy to pattern good doggie behavior after.  He is used to being with other dogs and to make him an only dog could cause him to regress with the socialization progress we have made with him in foster care.  He is still very timid with strangers but we believe he will eventually bond with a new family if given plenty of time to do so.  He continues to enjoy playing with doggie toys and is now playing with the other dogs at his foster home.

UPDATE 2/14/13: After a week in foster care, Rowan has started to blossom into a wonderful, loving little boy.  His potty manners are dramatically better, especially if kept on a regular schedule.  He is still very timid with strangers, so will definitely need a family with plenty of patience and love to give him time to feel safe.  He now plays with doggie toys and is taking treats from his foster mom (not yet doing so from foster dad).  He tends to follow the group of pupsters here at his foster home, going outside to potty and sharing TV time with his foster mom in a chair during the evening.  He most likely will always be a "velcro" dog to his forever mom, and hopefully for his forever dad.  Oh, and he has found his barking voice.........maybe not so good!!  As with all our foster dogs, we continue to work with with him on all his good and bad behaviors in preparation for his forever home.

2/7/13:  Rowan is a very shy little Maltese boy who will need a lot of love and patience to help him become a happy and balanced pupster.  He is working on his potty manners and will need continued training.  He is learning to walk on a leash and it would definitely help him if he had a fur-brother or sister to help show him the ropes.  He does better with women than men, but will eventually warm up to the man of the house if there is one.  We feel young children would not be a good fit for Rowan as he is easily frightened at this point in his rehabilitation.  He would probably be fine with children over 12 so long as they are not loud and rowdy.  He is a great little lap dog and loves to be with the female of the house. Rowan is learning to play with doggie toys so it seems he will eventually be a playful pup when he feels safe in his environment.

If you believe you could give Rowan a wonderful furever home, please submit an adoption application.  If you have any questions, please email his foster home at ljpfile05@frontier.com.  Rowan is a very special dog that will definitely need a committed family willing to help him to be a "normal" dog!

PLEASE NOTE:   If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website like Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, or another search engine (the OFP website is www.ohiofuzzypawz.com), not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances.  If you go to the  individual webpage of our dogs , you will be able to get more information each dog.

Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Our Adoption Process

The adoption process has several steps involved. Please review prior to submitting an application. Our adoption process is detailed here:  http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption

Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog.  We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved.  It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.

Special Requirements

Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable.  If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence.  Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.

The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms.  The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information.  If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed.  Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.  No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.   At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.

Out of State Adoptions

We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.  We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
