Shih Tzu (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Baby : : Small
Noah's adoption donation is $400, and he is being fostered in Dayton, Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, bordetella vaccines, and tested negative for heartworm. He is on monthly heartworm & flea/tick prevention. Noah is a uniquely-marked, auburn brown and white Shih Tzu boy who is about 5 months old and weighs 12 lbs currently. He was removed from a home in eastern Ohio in a hoarding case along with his mother Cami. He is cratetrained and doing well on housetraining if kept on a schedule; his foster mommy thinks it's cute that he's a "leaner" as in he NEVER lifts his leg to mark whether inside or outside! Noah should be adopted by a home with some former dog experience to help him improve his socialization. He LOVES to play and just be around other dogs, so having another well-balanced pup will be so necessary in his furever home. Dogs only help to bring Noah out of his shell! And it is so funny to watch him trying to play with his two foster fur-siblings... :) Noah does a great job in choosing to chew on the various soft and rubber dog toys around the house. It only took one little nibble for him to learn that Croc shoes are a "non-chewable"- lol. He is really a smart puppy, quickly learning "Outside" and the proper feeding procedures with his fur-siblings (who gets to eat out of which bowl!) He also knows how to go up and down the doggie stairs to his foster parents' bed. He has not been exposed to cats before, but based on his sweet interactions with other pups, his foster mom thinks he would do great! Noah LOVES to walk on his leash exploring the great "suburban outdoors" in his neighborhood! He looks like the happiest puppy with his tail curled high in the air just wagging away! He is also a fabulous car-rider! You can just tell that he SO wants to trust people in the way that he follows you from room to room, though always staying just out of reach. But he will take treats from his foster mommy's hand, so that is great progress (and shows you what a great eater he is!) He is such a loving little boy in that he has NEVER been aggressive or even tried to nip/bite at all, no matter how frightened he is. He is tolerant of being held in his foster mom's arms, though at this point, he is much more comfortable curled up with his foster fursister in a snuggle bed together. Noah's just taking a little more time to learn that good people will only give him lots of love and affection! His foster mommy can't wait to see what a jewel Noah will be when he's all grown up and fears nothing!! SEPT 3, 2012 UPDATE: Noah is beginning to feel comfortable enough to jump up on the sofa beside his foster mom and watch TV cuddled up next to her while enjoying a nice back rub! His foster dad is even getting a little jealous of all the good rubs Noah is enjoying! :) Noah has also become quite comfortable being held in his foster mommy's lap. SEPT 12, 2012 UPDATE: When Noah is allowed up onto his foster parents' bed in the morning, he loves to come right up and nuzzle his foster mom's ear. He is quite comfortable lying next to his foster parents and cuddling! :) He also learned "Sit" just by watching his foster fursiblings! If you have ANY questions about sweet Noah, please feel free to email his foster mom at Lauren.Churchey@gmail.com. Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
