Pekingese (medium coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Autumn is a beautiful, blonde, 10 lb, 3-4 yo Pekingese who is just waiting to find her furever home. Like many Pekes, she MUST know what is going on at all times and will be the shadow of the one she adores as they move about, tattle on the cat when it knocks something off the counter or go find out why the beeper sounded on the washer and dryer. All that nosiness is a lot of exercise though and there is nothing like a good nap with the other dogs in the house, all curled up together in the dog bed. Autumn enjoys playing with toys of all types and has her favorites. SHE is a favorite toy of her foster family's cats which she hasn't quite figured out yet; she should do okay with cats in another home but she might chase them in the beginning. We are trying to teach her fetch, currently it is Autumn: 10 - foster mom: 0. Autumn LOVES going outside and running but at this time still considers an open door/gate a personal invitation to do just that; a fenced-in yard will be required to contain her exuberance. Autumn is also an old-fashioned kind of gal so her beautiful blond coat will not require the intense amount of grooming that many Pekes do. Autumn does get along with other dogs but she can be bossy in the beginning, particularly with the boys. There aren't any children in her foster-home so it is difficult to say what her reaction is to them long-term but in casual meeting situations there have been no difficulties. Autumn wouldn't be well suited to toddlers or small children though due to her size, breed characteristics and propensity for running out open doors. Autumn is crate-trained and sleeps through the night with no fuss. She does quite well on housetraining and will let you know that she needs to go out but has been trained to use puppy wee-pads as well. Autumn quickly figures out those things which are important to her (where the food and treats are!) but her knowledge of basic commands is minimal and she would benefit from a course in beginner's obedience training. Autumn has been spayed, received her rabies, dhlpp, and bordetella vaccines, heartworm tested negative and on prevention. She has also had a fecal test and is on flea prevention. 12/21/11 UPDATE: Autumn continues to do well with other dogs, but she seems to have a very shy attitude toward men. She recently changed foster homes and is very slow to make up with the man of the house. She will eventually get past her initial fear, but will need several days to feel comfortable. She attaches quickly to the woman of the house, and can become quite protective so it will be important for the humans to be in charge or she will gladly take over that position. This is typical Peke behavior and Autumn is a typical Peke, loving and fun and always needing her favorite human's attention. She is being fostered in Central Ohio and her adoption donation is $275. Additional questions may be sent to her foster mom. If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website like Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, or another search engine (the OFP website is www.ohiofuzzypawz.com), not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances. If you go to the

Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
