Shih Tzu (long coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Small
Presley's adoption donation is $275 and he is being fostered in Central Ohio. He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. Presley also had a dental cleaning at the end of 2013 to show off his pearly white, super cute underbite! Presley is a 5-6 year old gold and white Shih Tzu boy who only weighs about 12 pounds. He was adopted and then returned to OFP when he began having some behavioral issues...he discovered that he could be in charge, which resulted in him acting out and being a naughty little boy! Presley is a little on the shy side and does take some time to warm up to people. (His introductory growl can be almost intimidating!) But when he does become more comfortable with you (which took ONLY about 10-15 minutes for his foster mom and about a couple hours for his foster dad!), Presley is a happy boy, loves to play and cuddle and be with his people. He will fall asleep in your arms if you let him, and he loves to jump up on the sofa in order to curl up and watch TV with you. He also will gently paw your hand to get some much deserved attention, and that means some good rubs! Unlike most other Shih Tzus, Presley does not have a tail--we can't tell if he was born that way or if it was done after he was born! Though his little tail nub is too tiny to see, you can feel it when you scratch his back...and he LOVES it! He walks well on a leash and does not seem to be an "escape artist", so a fenced-in backyard would not be required for Presley's new home. Because of Presley's rough start in life, he is not quick to trust people, so he would not be suitable in a home with children or any visiting grandchildren. A quiet home with minimal people traffic would be the best fit to keep from stressing Presley. Also, a home with previous dog experience is required for Presley. He loves to run and play with his foster fur-siblings and enjoys playing with both soft squeaky and hard rubber toys! For this reason (and to remain socially balanced), Presley will need his forever home to have another dog . He also will bring his toy right to your feet, nudging you as if to say, "Let's play tug!" Presley is cratetrained and has done well with pottytraining; he is learning to do his "marking of territory" outside! He also has a gruff little bark to alert you if there is a squirrel taunting him in the backyard or if his sharp ears hear anything even mildly "suspicious"! Presley is a smart little boy who already knows his name and several commands including "Sit...Outside...Inside"! He will also follow you around the house as your little "velcro" boy! If you have any questions about adorable Mr. Presley, please feel free to email his foster mom at Lauren.churchey@gmail.com! Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
